The DOE granted almost $5 million to a team of building industry innovators to field-test a new building retrofit system in two Pittsburgh homes. The Fraunhofer USA system combines prefabricated panels with other building technologies into a retrofit process that allows residents to live in their homes during installation while reducing energy consumption by 75%. The team includes the Fraunhofer USA Center at Boston University and two Pittsburgh-area nonprofits, the Green Building Alliance and Rising Tide Partners.
